An Idea for the Journals

Hi all, I'm J.Ro (Jennifer Robinson), the guardian for Yancey County's book. Just thought I'd share an idea that I'm working on. I'm putting together a journaling bag to go with the journal - inside will be colored pencils, a tray of watercolor paint, watercolor pencils, some glue sticks, skinny black pens, an old phone book, maps, flyers from our county, newspapers - anything that could be used as background papers.

My county is small but diverse in interests - I hope to get all walks of life in the journal, artists, farmers, local businesses, and regular old folks. My daughter is taking a current events course her second semester and I'm going to talk to her teacher about leaving it in his classroom. His students in that class could maybe work on local current events within the journal as an in-class assignment. I also plan to have it out at our local studio tour, drop it at our busiest hair salon for a day, the animal shelter, the courthouse, etc. etc.

What are others' ideas? I'll photograph and post the journal bag and contents once I get it together next week.

Region 4

Hello All! My name is Shannon Sissokho and I am your Region 4 Representative! I am also the co-guardian for Cumberland County. I am so excited about this project and seeing how it progresses over the next year. I am still searching for "guardians" for Richmond Co. and Columbus Co. I have a few contacts for them that I am going to try this week and hopefully have all journals taken care of for Region 4.
We have already begun journaling in Cumberland and have a line of people waiting for it to be sent their way! I will keep you posted on how our progress is going .
You can contact me at: ssissokho@yahoo.com or shannonsissokho@ccs.k12.nc.us

Attention all Coordinators!

If you are one of my wonderful Region Coordinators please post your contact info on the blog so others in your region will have an easy way to contact you. I would really like to use the blog as an information command center where we can all stay in touch. Keep in mind, I may have more than one coordinator in your region, and I think that will work fine and maybe we can even divide the region if that is the case. Hope you are working in the journal and starting to get others involved, post comments and images whenever you like so we can all see what is going on around the state!

Project Concept

100 Vis J’s 4 NC
The goal of this project is to provide a forum for citizens in the communities of North Carolina to creatively share with one another. This year long collaborative process will attempt to fill one visual journal for each county in our state.
You are invited to add to this journal. Write a story, poem, idea or opinion… Draw, paint, cut and glue something… Anything goes… REALLY!!!
The guardian of this journal will then chaperone it to another friend or soon-to-be-friend and the adventure will be encouraged to continue.
DO NOT BE AFRAID!!!
No one will judge you in here. You will have an entire community along for the journey. This journal is for your state. This journal is for your county. This journal is for your community. This journal is for you. Share a part of yourself with all of us.

We are up and running!!!

100 Vis J's 4 NC has officially launched!!! The initial disbursement of journals at the North Carolina Art Education Association Staff Development Conference found 54 out of 100 guardians. Thank you to all the fantastic art educators of NC for stepping up and getting involved in the project. This blog will be the spot to communicate with other guardians and share the progress of this experiment.
